1d. Why do I get error 691 invalid username or
password?
Please make sure you are entering your username with the extension
freeizone.net in the username line of the dialer, before connecting.
Example: username@freeizone.net
2. Can I have more than one e-mail account?
Yes
3. Why cant I receive e-mail?
Before contacting technical support, check the following:
1. Make sure you have established a connection. To verify that you
are connected, double click on your freeizone.net dialer icon.
A "connected to" window should pop up with the duration of
the connection increasing.
2. If you are prompted for a password, make certain you are typing
it in correctly (it is case sensitive). Your e-mail password is the
same as your log-in password.
3. Click on the "get mail" icon on the top left of the task
bar in the mail room to download mail to your inbox.
4. To read a piece of mail, maximize your screen. Click on the sender's
name. The mail message should appear in the lower section of the mail
room window. Keep in mind that the size of the three windows in the
mail room can be changed in proportion to each other by clicking on
and dragging the vertical or horizontal divider. If there are messages
in your inbox but you can't read them, click on the bottom edge of the
window and drag it up. The mail message should appear underneath.
5. If you are using a program such as cybersitter or netnanny, check
that program's diagnostics to see if it is holding back mail due to
its content.
4. Why do I get an Invalid Page Fault when I try
to send or receive mail?
Invalid Page Fault errors in Netscape Navigator mail can be caused
by a corrupt inbox or outbox. To resolve this problem, follow these
steps:
1. Close Netscape Navigator .
2. Using Windows 95 Explorer or Windows 3.1 File Manager, locate the
files named INBOX and INBOX.SNM. Rename both files to INBOX.TXT and
INBOX.OLD.
3. Open file INBOX.TXT in any text editor to read any messages that
are in there.
Page Faults are sometimes caused by an invalid date on one of the messages.
While you are looking at the INBOX.TXT file, look at the dates of the
messages. If you see a date that clearly makes no sense - several years
old or a future date, change it to a current date, and then save the
file as OLDBOX.
Restart Netscape Navigator. Your inbox will be automatically rebuilt.
You will also see a new mail folder called OLDBOX. See if you can open
it. If no, you can still read your old mail messages by opening the
file OUTBOX in any text editor, but make sure to move the file OUTBOX
away from your mail directory.
Note: If you are getting similar errors when attempting to send mail,
perform the operation above on files OUTBOX and OUTBOX.SNM.
5. Why do I get a "too many recipients"
error when sending mail?
Our mail server limits the number of recipients to discourage spam.
Anyone caught sending spam will be subject to cancellation of account
and possible penalties. If you just want to send several emails and
are not a spammer, then it will just take a little longer, we are sure
you will agree that this way is better for you and everyone else to
have a hassle free experience.
6. What about web space?
There are many webspace options available via the home page.
7. Where can I find D.N.S. settings and what are
they?
DNS stands for "Domain Name Server" or "Domain Name
Services". It allows you to connect to computers on the Internet
by using their names instead of their numbers.
You don't have to cern yourself with this to use this service.
8. How do I delete bookmarks from my bookmark list
?
Here is how to remove a bookmark from your "Bookmarks" menu:
1.Open the Bookmarks window:
If you're using Netscape Navigator 2.x, select "Go To Bookmarks"
from the "Bookmarks" menu.
If you're using Netscape Navigator 3.x, select "Bookmarks"
from the Window menu.
If you're using Netscape Communicator, select "Bookmarks"
from the Communicator menu then select "Edit Bookmarks" from
the submenu.
If you're using Netscape Communicator on Macintosh, select "Bookmarks"
from the menu just to the right of the bookmarks menu.
2.In the Bookmarks window which the above step displays, select
the bookmark you want to delete. Select it by single-clicking (don't
double-click) on it. This will hi-light it. (If you click twice on the
bookmark instead, you will visit the page which is bookmarked.) Remember
that you should be clicking on the bookmark in the "Bookmarks"
window, not under the "Bookmarks" menu.
3.Select "Delete" or "Clear" from the Edit
menu. This will remove the bookmark. If you deleted the wrong bookmark,
you can select "Undo" from the Edit menu to restore it. Otherwise,
close the Bookmarks window and the deleted bookmark will have been removed
from your Bookmarks menu.
9. How can I clear the "Location" or "Netsite"
pulldown menu in Netscape ?
You can go to a specific web page in Netscape Navigator and Netscape
Communicator by typing its location (its Universal Resource Locator,
or "URL") into the "Location" or "Netsite"
field at the top of the window. On Windows systems, the most recent
locations you entered this way will then be remembered so you can later
click on the arrow at the right end of the field and select them from
a list. You may occasionally want to clear out this list. Here's how
to do it.
Make sure that you quit from Navigator or Communicator before you make
any of the changes below. You should not have Netscape running while
you edit any files in the Netscape directory.
For Netscape Navigator or Communicator on Windows 3.1 or 3.11: Use
the Windows "Notepad" utility program to open the "NETSCAPE.INI"
file, which is probably either in your "C:\WINDOWS" directory
or in the directory where you installed the Netscape software. In this
file you will find a section titled "[URL History]", followed
by lines which begin with "URL_1=", "URL_2=", and
so forth. Delete all of the text after the equals sign for each one
of these lines, then save the file and start Netscape Navigator again.
For Netscape Communicator 4.x or Navigator 4.x on Windows 95 or Windows
NT:
The information in the Location pulldown menu is stored in a file named
"prefs.js" on your computer. This file should be in a subdirectory
under the directory where Netscape Communicator is installed on your
computer; for example, it might be located at "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\yourname\prefs.js".
Find this file on your hard disk, and open it as a text file. You'll
see several lines in that file which look something like this:
user_pref("browser.url_history.URL_1", "http://help.netscape.com/");
user_pref("browser.url_history.URL_2", "http://altavista.digital.com/");
user_pref("browser.url_history.URL_3", "http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/dilbert/");
user_pref("browser.url_history.URL_4", "http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/lurker.html");
These lines (only the ones which say "browser.url_history"
in them) define what shows up in the Location pulldown menu. Delete
all of these lines (but not any other lines in the file), then save
your changes and start Communicator. The Location menu should now be
empty.
For Netscape Navigator 2.x and 3.x on Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0:
This involves editing the Windows Registry, which can potentially harm
your system if you edit or delete the wrong entries. Make sure you have
current backups of your system before you try this.
Select Run from the Start menu, and enter "regedit.exe" (on
Windows 95) or "regedt32.exe" (on Windows NT 4.0), then press
Return. When the registry editor appears, go down through this hierarchy:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Netscape
Navigator
URL History
Clear each entry listed under "URL History" by double-clicking
in the Name column of a line, deleting whatever appears in the Value
data field of the dialog box, and clicking "OK". Repeat for
each line. When you're done, quit from the registry editor and start
your Netscape software again.
10. How can I turn images off so my pages will
load faster ?
Most of your time browsing the web is probably taken up by having
to wait for graphic images to appear on the web pages. Often the graphics
are for aesthetics only.If you can live without them, you can tell
Netscape Navigator not to load images unless you specifically want
it to, and this will speed up your web browsing experience significantly
(especially if you're connected to the Internet by a modem and a phone
line).
To tell Netscape Navigator (2.x, and 3.x) not to automatically load
images:
1.Under the Options menu, you should see an item named "Auto
Load Images" with a check mark beside it. Uncheck "Auto
Load Images" by clicking on it.
To tell Netscape Communicator (4.x) not to automatically load images:
1.Select "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu.
2.Click on "Advanced" in the list on the left-hand side
of the dialog.
3.Uncheck the box beside "Automatically Load Images" (on
Windows)
4.Click the OK button on the bottom.
Now, graphics on web pages will show up as a small icon. If you ever
want to display all of the graphics on a particular web page, click
the "Images" button at the top of your browser window. You
can also click on any image icon to display just that one image. If
you want to turn automatic image loading back on for all pages, just
put the check mark back in by "Auto Load Images".
